DAY’S PLAY

The 2017 10 Red Handicap Woodside Winner is Orin ‘Drago’ Drake who fought off tough contender Darren ‘Smooth’ Rix to take the trophy.

Both players faced stiff competition as they made their way to the final with Orin D seeing off some tough competition from young guns Reggie E and Luke P, as Darren R had to fight hard against Andy H who cued very well and an in-form Paul P whom compiled a fine 37 break in their semi-final encounter.

Orin and Darren went head-to-head, trading blow for blow in the final as Orin made a clinical 44 break to take a 2-1 lead to only go in off the black in the next frame to leave Darren a chance which he duly took by clearing the colours and clinching the frame to make it 2-2. It was a tense final frame with some excellent match-play from both players but it was Orin ‘Roadrunner’ D who eventually came out as the victor.

SHOTS OF THE WEEK

Reggie E cannon on Red to free the Black

Paul K with a fine Green down the rails

Sam B Green, Brown and Blue consecutively

Orin D slammed in a long Black at a crucial point of the match

Luke P who surprisingly potted a solid Pink

SHOULD HAVE PLAYED THE LOTTERY

Paul K must have trodden in something slippery outside as he lost his feet playing a rest shot, falling on the table without touching a single ball – 6 numbers quickly!!

SET UP OF THE WEEK

Sam ‘Ant Man’ Betts finished hampered and due to his challenged stature this left him having to play a shot using the extended rest which resulted in a ‘what was that’ as he managed to set up his opponent Paul P perfectly on the Brown for him to sink and take the frame.

A mention must also go to Darryl Newman for taking the time out to referee the final and something we all appreciate so ‘Thank-You!’.

And last by not least a thank you to all those that have attended any event over the past 10 weeks - the atmosphere and camaraderie has been fantastic and you are all truly a credit to this beautiful game!!
