Week 2 – Some GREAT moments and performances this week as another great bunch took to the baize – welcome to new entrants Gary G, Jon H, Ben H, Simon S, Reggie E and Matty E.
New for Week 3: A subsidiary tournament for those that lose in the first round.
Performances of the Day:
WEEK 2 WINNER: Darren Rix
HIGH BREAK: Luke Pinches (72)
Darren Rix is this week’s worthy winner as his silky smooth ‘Stephen Lee’ cue action helped him see off Grant Miles, Luke Pinches, Reggie Edwards and Jon Hubbard in the final.
High break prize goes to Luke Pinches with a superb 72 whilst on a maximum – he is certainly flowing this year and is proving to be a handful for anyone. Grant Miles maintained his consistency with another break of 67 this week, whilst Reggie Edwards also looked to be cueing well knocking in a nice 64.
A determined Jon Hubbard produced some solid match-play snooker as he brushed aside some real quality in Gary Griffin and Lyndon on his way to the final – watch out next week as Jon certainly looks determined to win.
Last week’s finalist Geoffrey Smith had a late start due to forgetting one of his contact lenses. If he returned quickly we would make an exception this time, and with that he literally took off at a pace that Usain Bolt would have been proud of and returned to play a great tactical game until losing in the quarter-finals.
Simon S also gets a mention as he showed some dogged determination in the first round, potting the colours to force a re-spot and then potting the final black to win the frame - unfortunately losing the match in a hard fought affair 2-1.
Sam Betts didn't manage to find his feet, much like Saturday evening, as he looked well out of sorts with Andy Hubbard out-classing him in the first round for the second week running – he seems to have Sam ‘The Fiddler’ Betts all sewn up at the minute.
I would like to say a massive thank-you again to all and let’s not forget that there will be a subsidiary tournament starting in week 3!
